A find or not a find?

From: gillespieba (gillespieba@yahoo.com) | Date: 2006-12-01 16:08:18 UTC
So I have a question for everyone... I recently recently ran across a
situation when looking for a letterbox, and I found it completely
destroyed (in this case by wildlife). I was able to identify parts of
the top, large parts of the bottom, the kleanex and the ziplock bags,
but I did not locate the stamp... now in my mind, I "found" the box,
it was there (mostly) and I had successfully followed the clues to
it's exact location.

Now here is the question... is this a find or not? Does it count as a
find if there is no stamp or logbook?

What do you all think?

The criteria for a letterbox is pretty simple, it contains a logbook
you can put your image into and a stamp that you can stamp into your
personal logbook.

I agree with Don on this one. No stamp exchange, no find. When our
family runs across a lost/destroyed box we still write in our logbooks
of the experience and certainly contact the owner, but we do not report
it as a find.

In addition to tracking Finds, some people also track Attempts. This
might more appropriately be classified as an Attempt & not a Find.

Okay, not trying to get technical... but what about boxes that only
have one or the other... stamp but no logbook or logbook but no stamp?

Same answer.
Except in those cases you have the opportunity to do a little
maintenance.
